Positive Thinking and Affirmations

Changing one's mental framework to a healthier, more positive one creates increased wellbeing, less suffering, and greater strength to handle life's difficulties. This can be achieved through developing self-awareness of the activities of one's mind, which allows a person to practice re-directing the mind into a positive framework. I learned about the benefits of this practice originally through Yogi and Buddhist philosophies of the mind, and in alternative healing prescriptions that emphasize the value and powerful effects of having a positive mind and using affirmations.

I facilitate this process in the here-and-now by pointing out the negative thinking patterns I observe, helping clients pause speech to take a deep breath, and finding positive affirmations to dissolve the power of negative thinking. Through a collaborative process, I aid clients in identifying and selecting positive affirmations that resonate with them, because this lends the affirmations more power to effectively produce positive mental states and increase positivity.

This shift in thinking changes emotional states in a positive direction, for example by promoting feelings of comfort, safety, relief, joy, wellness, and love. With continued practice outside of the therapy situation, one cultivates the ability to better manage challenging psychological experiences and situations in a healthy way.

As a result, one gains strength and momentum to take action to achieve desired goals.

~"I can get through this."

~ "I am loved."
